当下朱仝、雷横两个来到后堂，领了知县言语，和县尉上了马，径到尉司，点起马步弓手并士兵一百余人，就同何观察并两个虞侯，作眼拿人。雷横自在火光之下，东观西望做寻人。朱仝撇了土兵，挺着刀，去赶晁盖。朱仝见后面没人，方才敢说到：“保正，你兀自不见我好处：我怕雷横执迷，不会做人情，被我赚他打你前门，我在后面等你出来放你。你见我闪开条路，让你过去。你不可投别处去，只除梁山泊可以安身。”晁盖道：“深感救命之恩，异日必报！”朱仝正赶间，只听得背后雷横大叫道：“休教走了人！”朱仝分付晁盖道：“保正，你休慌，只顾一面走，我自使转他去。”朱仝回头叫道：“有三个贼望东小路去了，雷都头，你可急赶。”雷横领了人，便投东小路上，并士兵众人赶去。朱仝一面和晁盖说着话，一面赶他，却如放送的相似。渐渐黑影里不见了晁盖。朱仝只做失脚扑地，倒在地下。众士兵随后赶来，向前扶起，急得救。朱仝答道：“黑影里不见路径，失脚走下野田里，滑到了，闪挫了右腿。”县尉道：“走了正贼，怎生奈何！”朱仝道：“非是小人不赶，其实月黑了，没做道理处。县尉再叫士兵去赶，众士兵心里道：“两个都头，尚兀自不济事，近他不得，我们有何用？”都去虚赶了一回，转来道：“黑地里正不知那条路去了。”雷横也赶了一直回来，心内寻思道：“朱仝晁盖最好，多敢是放了他去，我没来由做甚么恶人。我也有心亦要放他，今已去了，只是不见了人情。晁盖那人，也不是好惹的。”

在这种情况下，朱仝不得不随吴用、雷横来梁山泊入伙。在“梁山泊英雄排座次”时，朱仝排梁山泊首领第十二位，任马军八虎骑兼先锋使首领第六名。在“两赢童贯”（第七十七回）和“三败高俅”（第七十八—八十回）中，朱仝屡立战功。在招安后，朱仝积极参加了征讨辽国、平定方腊等战争，也战功显赫，所以他被封为保定府都统制（第一一九回）。朱仝在保定府管军有功，后随刘光世破了大金，直做到太平军节度使。

燕顺：燕顺代表着梁山好汉中的很多人。他们失去了生计，变成了流浪汉。为了生存，他们在山上占有要塞，过路行人，不管是好人或坏人，一旦陷入他们手中，都会遭到抢劫并杀害。例如燕顺，绰号锦毛虎，祖贯山东莱州人氏。他原是贩羊马客人出身，因为消折了本钱，流落在绿林丛内打劫。王英，祖贯两淮人氏，江湖上叫他矮脚虎。原是车家出身，为因半路见财起意，就势劫了客人，事发到官，越狱走了，上清风山，和燕顺占住此山，打家劫舍。郑天寿，祖贯浙西苏州人氏，为他生得白净俊俏，人都号他做白面郎君。原是打银为生，因自小习枪棒，流落在江湖上，因来清风山过，撞着王矮虎，和他斗了五六十合，不分胜败。因此燕顺见他好手段，留在山上，坐了第三把交椅。（第三十二回）少华山上添了一伙强人，扎下一个山寨，上面聚集着五七百个小喽罗，有百十匹好马。为头那个大王，唤作神机军师朱武，第二个唤作跳涧虎陈达，第三个唤作白花蛇杨春。这三个为头，打家劫舍，华阴县里禁他不得，出三千贯赏钱召人拿他，谁敢上去惹他？（第二回）此间有座山，换做桃花山，近来山上有两个大王，扎了寨栅，聚集有五七百人，打家劫舍。此间青州官军捕盗，禁他不得。这李忠、周通自在桃花山打劫。（第五回）“九纹龙剪径赤松林。”（第六回）此类事例，不胜枚举。这是那时社会生态环境的真实反映。
